Abstract
As the masterpiece of Marxist political economy, Capital has begun its "travel" in China since the very late 19thcentury. As a result, its key concept "means of production" is brought into China's discursive field and becomes an essential part of the socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics. The concept is an indispensable element of the discourse system. Against the backdrop of constructing the discourse system of socialism with Chinese features, this paper, guided by the theory of fusion of horizons, looks into the translation of "means of production" in China based on the Chinese versions of Capital. This endeavour will contribute to a keen understanding of its adaptation to the Chinese conditions and thus clear up the source of the discourse system for the Chinese political economy, which serves as an interpreter of China's roads, theories and institutions.
