The UK Climate Policy: New Progress and Prospects

The Johnson Administration of the UK regards climate governance as a priority. On the one hand, it puts forward new climate objectives based on the sixth "carbon budget" and introduces a large number of cross cutting climate strategies to enrich domestic climate policies. On the other hand, it actively carries out climate diplomacy conferences such as COP26, strives to promote climate financing, advocates the construction of a green national defense network and deepens international climate cooperation. The Johnson Administration's climate policy takes the Climate Change Act as the purpose of action, continues and strengthens the "climate heritage" of Theresa May's government, and continues to strengthen policy efforts under the dual background of “brexit” and the COVID-19. In the future, the UK climate policy will still face three challenges, including insufficient effective policy-making, questioned ability of international diplomatic cooperation and leadership, and blocked investment and distribution of climate funds.
