The Transcendence of Metaphysics in Gadamer’s Practical Philosophy

Abstract
Abstracts: For Gadamer, hermeneutics is not only philosophy, but practical philosophy. Gadamer’s practical philosophy builds on previous practical philosophies, particularly that of Aristotle. Gadamer’s philosophy of practice includes both theory and practice, a reflection on human existence, especially the human experience of the world and of life. Gadamer’s practical philosophy is based on the correct application of reason; it goes beyond the metaphysics of the past. What he really wants to criticise is the misapplication of reason, not reason itself. Gadamer’s practical philosophy provides a good direction for the development of future philosophy.
