Study on the Accounting and Network Characteristics of Embodied Carbon Trade in Countries along the Belt and Road

  • This paper studies the accounting and network characteristics of embodied carbon trade in the Belt and Road countries from 2006 to 2015. Three empirical results are found. Firstly, except for 2009 and 2015, the annual carbon trade of the Belt and Road countries in other years keeps growing. Secondly, among the countries in the carbon trade network of the Belt and Road, the core countries are China, Russia and India, and the embodied carbon import and export trade volume is in the top three. Finally, from the point of center degree, near center degree and intermediate center degree, China, Russia and India have large export and import volume in the embodied carbon trade network of the countries and regions, and when conducting implicit carbon trade they rely less on third-party countries and have higher independence. Besides, they play a strong intermediary role in the embodied carbon trading network. Therefore, while strengthening the trade of products and services of the Belt and Road countries, we also need to pay attention to the impact of trade on the environment. At the same time, China need to play the core role of of leading the countries in the Belt and Road to achieve the goal of carbon emission reduction.
