Abstract:
The ideology of data fetishism is a new capitalist tool of ideological domination that has accompanied the emergence of data and its large-scale use.Its generative process is embodied in the triple inversion and obscuring of the subject-object relationship between data and people in the context of real data interaction utilisation.As faithful believers in the fetish of data, digital capitalists will inevitably seize and possess data and its related technologies under the domination of the logic of capital and the desire for power, while general data fetishists will suffer from the hidden domestication of data in their reliance on and trust in data, the interactive use of data, and the pursuit of data traffic.The essential role of the ideology of data fetishism is to achieve ideological domination over the contemporary digital masses, establishing a rational basis for data theft by tech companies, while at the same time giving a veneer of legitimacy to imperialist data colonisation.In order to prevent and counteract the threat posed by the ideology of data fetishism to the healthy development of data in China, an effective response can be made in four aspects: mindset reversal, capital regulation, institutional construction and technology for the people.
