Abstract:
John King Fairbank is the most prestigious expert on the issue of China in the United States. He devoted his whole life to the study of China and published a large number of works on important topics such as Chinese history, politics, war, reform and culture. His thought has promoted the overseas study of China to change from the traditional Sinological perspective to the modern Chinese perspective, representing the modern mainstream American views on China. Since the 1970s, Fairbank's works have been translated into China and domestic academia has already attached great importance to the study of his thoughts. However, there is little research on the translation and acceptance of his works in China. From the perspective of cultural history of translation, the paper combs the influence of Fairbank's thought on Chinese academic circle from the perspectives of publishing house, translator group, translation mode, paratext, dissemination and reception, and promotes the study of the translation and reception of Fairbank's thought in China.
